| INTERNATIONAL HUMAN
DEVELOPMENT & UPLIFTMENT ACADEMY (IHDUA) |
|
| The International Human Development &
Upliftment Academy based in Mysore, is a Non-Government
Organization established in 1991. It is one of the many
innovative projects taken up and developed by Dr. B.S.
Ajaikumar, an Oncologist who has returned to India with
his family after spending nearly 28 years in the United
States. Even while residing in the U.S., he started many
of these projects by making frequent trips to India, which
includes establishing multiple Oncology centers. |
|
| Dr.Ajaikumar believes the key to rural
women empowerment is economic well-being, a conduit to
propel health and education standards. IHDUA plays a vital
role in these aspects. |
|
| The IHDUA Trust has been actively involved
since 1992 in the following Rural Projects. |
|

Process that is Equitable
and Sustainable |
|
|
| Rural Literacy
:
IHDUA realizes that literacy is key to further enhancing
rural life. IHDUA establishes rural schools in remote
areas. With this mission in mind "Vinayaka Gnana
Vidya Shale" a village school near Mysore, caters
to the educational needs of its surrounding villages.
At present it has over 400 students, who study from Kindergarten
to 10th Standard. Vinayaka Gnana Vidya Shale was one
of
the first schools to offer computer literacy as early
as in the year 1993. It promotes local cultures, human
values, personality- development and critical thinking.
With such a well-rounded curriculum, it is no surprise
that this village school is working into a center of
excellence. |
|
Women
Empowerment program : IHDUA works
in Gundlupet taluk, Chamrajnagar District, one
of the most backward areas in the State of Karnataka.
Nearly all of its inhabitants depend on agriculture
as their livelihood. Initially IHDUA adopted
12 villages for its rural development activities;
today, the number exceeds to 50.
IHDUA works in a decentralized system where women
and men in the 'Sanghas', the Self Help Groups
(SHG) implement and monitor the program.
|
|
 |
|
|
| The SHG program
is used primarily for economic development, dissemination
of information and training awareness programs in the
fields of education, health and political participation. |
|
| Micro credit programs have been executed
through vocational training like tailoring, embroidery,
making incense sticks, candles, and food items like papads
(tortilla), pickles and other income generating projects.
The trust helps in marketing the produce made by these
programs. |
|
| In the Health and Hygiene aspect, IHDUA
undertakes training and implementation of toilets, drainage
system, women and child health camps. To create Environmental
awareness, organic gardening, drip irrigation, planting
of trees and other eco-friendly projects have been implemented.
As a result IHDUA has achieved a great deal in helping
make village communities more self-reliant and sustainable.
|
|
| In the future IHDUA hopes to establish
more rural schools in needy areas, agro-related income
generating activities using a hub and spoke model. IHDUA
comprehends that rural communities are centered on agriculture
and wants to bridge the gap between rural and urban India
by further using the SHG model, co-operative farming,
and co-operative agro-related industries. IHDUA is proud
to be one of a hundred and six NGOS throughout India that
has been recognized for its transparency and accountability
by Credibility Alliance. |
